Davis Moves Into Second in World Rankings

Claiming his second Grand Prix title in as many weeks, four-time NCAA national champion and nine-time All-American Walter Davis won the triple jump on Friday at the Memorial Van Damme.

Davis recorded a jump of 57-1 to edge out Sweden’s Olsson Christian (56-10) and Cuba’s Martinez Alexander (56-9) for the meet title.

The win Friday earned Davis 12 additional points in the Grand Prix standings, catapulting him into second in the current IAAF world rankings.

Davis, with 67 total points, now sits behind only Great Britain’s Jonathan Edwards (75 points) in the Grand Prix standings.
