BATON ROUGE — LSU remained in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ and AP Top 25 Polls despite its 26-8 loss to Virginia Tech on Sunday, as the Tigers came in at No. 23 and No. 24, respectively, in this week’s ranking.
The Tigers slid nine spots from No. 14 to No. 23 in the coaches’ poll and from 14th to 24th in the AP poll, while Virginia Tech leaped from No. 16 to No. 10 after the victory.
In the coaches’ poll, the top five teams in the poll remained unchanged as Miami continued to hold down the nation’s No. 1 ranking after a 63-17 win over Florida A&M on Saturday. Texas is No. 2 following at 27-0 victory over North Texas, while Oklahoma held the No. 3 spot after a 37-0 win over Tulsa. Tennessee and Florida State round out the top five.
In the AP poll, the Miami broke away from a tie with Oklahoma for the top spot, while 3-6 remained the same.
Other Southeastern Conference teams in the poll include Tennessee at No. 4, Florida at No. 6, Georgia at No. 11/10, and South Carolina at No. 19/22.
Newcomers to this week’s coaches poll were Colorado State at No. 20 after its 19-14 win over then-No. 6 Colorado and Notre Dame at No. 24 after a 22-0 shutout over then-No. 20 Maryland. Colorado State at No. 19, Wisconsin at No. 22 and Notre Dame at No. 24 were new to the AP poll.
Louisville and Maryland dropped out of the poll after losses last week. Louisville, ranked No. 18 last week, fell to Kentucky, 22-17, while Maryland fell to Notre Dame.
