Crescent City Tigers to Host 59th-Annual LSU Sports Banquet

East Continues Volleyball Domination; Basketball Thursday

BATON ROUGE — The East All-Star volleyball match continued its domination over the West in the Louisiana High School Coaches Association/Coca-Cola match Wednesday at the Maravich Assembly Center with a three-game triumph, 15-4, 15-3, 15-12.

The win was the 17th in 20 games in the series for the East and the 10th in the last 11 matches in the all-star volleyball series.

The Most Outstanding Player for the match was Jessica Helgeson of Dominican High and the East team who led all players with 9 kills in 17 attacks with just two errors, a .412 hitting percentage.

The East put on a clinic in the first game, hitting at a .391 percentage, scoring 10 straight points to break a 2-2 tie to go up 12-2 en route to the 15-12 win. The second six players for the East did almost as well, hitting .281 with a seven-point run in mid-game.

The West looked to have the chance to extend the game, holding the match at 8-8 before the East scored the next five straight points and moved out for the match before 1,091 on the opening night of the three-day festivities.

The action continues again inside the Maravich Assembly Center on Thursday night as the girls and boys volleyball games are contested. The girls game is set for 6 p.m. with the boys to follow at approximately 8 p.m. Admission to the doubleheader is $5 with tickets available at the Assembly Center beginning at 4:30 p.m. The contests will feature both Mr. and Miss Basketball from the previous season, Darrel Mitchell of St. Martinville and Simone Augustus of Capitol High School.
