MONACO — Coming off his first victory in a Golden League meet, former LSU standout Walter Davis finished fifth in the triple jump at the DN Galan on Tuesday evening in Stockholm Olympic Stadium and then fifth in the Golden League’s Herculis event in Monoco on Friday.

On Tuesday, Davis finished the DN Galan with a mark of 16.96m (55-7 3/4), earned on his first of six attempts. World record holder Jonathan Edwards of Great Britain won the meet for the second-straight year with a hop, skip and jump of 17.78m (58-4) to better his world-leading mark by three centimeters. Swedish record holder and second-ranked Christian Olsson was second (17.39m), while Alexandre Glavatskiy was third with a season-best 17.09m.

On Friday, Davis repeated his fifth-place finish with a jump of 16.82m to earn seven points in the Grand Prix standings. Olsson (17.63m) outdistanced Edwards (17.59m) for the title, while Aleksandr Glavatskiye was well back in third place (16.84). France’s Karl Taillepierre (16.83m) also edged Davis by less than an inch.

Davis, who completed his two-year career at LSU as the most decorated male athlete in school history, earned a total of 11 points in the Grand Prix standings during the week and held on to third place with 40 points. Edwards leads with 56, while Olsson is second with 47.

The DN Galan is named for the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter, which has been a meet sponsor since its inception in 1967. The meet is the largest sporting event in Sweden.

Davis next competes in the Weltklasse Zurich in Switzerland on Aug. 16 before traveling to London, Brussels, Berlin, Paris and Madrid before the end of September.
