BATON ROUGE — Charles Baglio, one of the most successful high school football coaches in Louisiana over the past 20 years, has joined the LSU Athletics Department and will serve as Coordinator of High School Football Relations.
Baglio comes to LSU after coaching at Independence High School for 34 years, 22 of which were as head coach. While at Independence, Baglio posted a head coaching record of 205-69. He won nine district titles and led his team to the state championship game twice.
Baglio also had numerous players go on to play collegiate football, including current LSU running back LaBrandon Toefield.
“We’re excited about having coach Bags join our staff,” LSU coach Nick Saban said. “He had an outstanding prep coaching career and he’s one of the most respected high school coaches around. We certainly feel like he’ll do a great job in this position.”
Baglio graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1967 with a degree in health and physical education and then followed that up with a master’s degree from SLU in 1973 in supervision and administration.
