KINGSVILLE, Texas — The 2002 LSU women’s gymnastics media guide placed fifth in the nation as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
The 64-page guide was compiled and edited by Associate Sports Information Director Fred Demarest and designed by Assistant Publications Coordinator Marie Brewer. The guide is a complete source of up-to-date information on the 2002 team, as well as archived information and records from the 28 years of women’s gymnastics at LSU.
“To have our guide place fifth on a national level reflects the quality of work that Fred Demarest and our sports information department puts out. It shows how much we all care about our work and is an excellent final product.”
The cover, which was a surprise for the Tiger head coach, celebrates Breaux’s 25th anniversary at LSU. The SEC Coach of the Year in four of the past 10 seasons, her teams have finished in the nation’s top 12 in 18 of her 25 years, including an eighth-place showing this season as senior Nicki Arnstad won the first individual-event national championship in modern LSU women’s gymnastics history.
Media guides are a source of information for media outlets and fellow sports information/media relations offices, as well as a valuable recruiting tool for coaches.
“The media guide is a vital part of the recruiting process,” said LSU head coach D-D Breaux. “It is often the first thing that a recruit sees that represents our program. The guide is something tangible the recruit can look through and get a feeling for the type of program we have.”
The LSU gymnastics guide has now finished fifth in back-to-back years. The 2002 West Virginia women’s gymnastics guide finished first, followed by the Utah women’s guide, Maryland’s women’s guide and Nebraska’s men’s gymnastics guide.
The guide, along with those of all 20 varsity sports at LSU, can be at LSUsports.net.
