BATON ROUGE — LSU linebacker Bradie James has been tabbed as a Second Team Preseason All-America by The Sporting News, the publication announced on Monday.
The team will be featured in The Sporting News’ 2002 College Football Yearbook, which will hit the newsstands later this month.
James, a senior from Monroe, La., enters his final season with the Tigers with 264 career tackles and 11 sacks.
Last year as a junior, James recorded 113 tackles, eight for losses and three sacks, in leading LSU to a 10-3 overall mark and its first outright Southeastern Conference title since 1986. For his efforts in 2001, James earned First Team All-SEC honors.
James enters the 2002 season already listed as a candidate for the Lombardi Award as well as the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is awarded to the nation’ top defensive player, while the Lombardi Award honors the nations’ top down lineman and those defensive players who line up within five yards of the football.
