Lee Named SEC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU sprinter Muna Lee has been named the SEC Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week after coming up with an impressive showing at the 108th Penn Relays in Philadelphia last weekend.

Lee became the first woman to win consecutive Penn Relays 100-meter titles since former Lady Tiger great Cheryl Taplin did so in 1993 and again in 1994. Lee won the event in a time of 11.38 after posting a time of 11.26 in the prelims.

The sophomore All-American also anchored the Lady Tigers to a victory in the 4×200-meter relay for the second straight year and ran a 200-meter leg on their victorious sprint medley relay.

Add in a second place finish in the 4×100-meter relay and Lee picked up three victories and one runner-up finish in four events last weekend. The honor is the second of the outdoor season for the NCAA Indoor 200-meter champion.

Lee currently leads the nation in the 200-meter dash and ranks second in the 100-meter dash. She will be among a short list of favorites to contend for both titles when the NCAA Outdoor Championships come to Baton Rouge from May 29 – June 1.
