BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s basketball office announced Tuesday it had received signed national letter-of-intent papers from Tony Gipson of Panola Junior College.
The 6-2, 180-pound guard becomes the first signee of the spring signing period for LSU. He will have three years of eligibility remaining at LSU, beginning with the 2002-2003 season.
Gipson hails from Farmerville, La., and he averaged 25 points per game last year for the Carthage, Texas, junior college.
“We are pleased that Tony Gipson has signed a scholarship with LSU and will become a part of our team,” said LSU coach John Brady. “He will play a swing position for us and he brings added depth to our perimeter. He has the ability to create and score the basketball while possessing outstanding quickness. He was a qualifier out of high school and will have three years of eligibility at LSU. We are excited about what he brings to our program.”
