BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team will close out its regular season on Tuesday, as the Tigers host both UL-Monroe and Southern in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
“We’re looking at these matches as a chance to maintain our recent high level of play and to take that momentum into the SEC Tournament,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “We scheduled these matches to help us to continue to compete in a dual-match format and they will help us to work out any last-minute game adjustments.”
LSU heads into Tuesday’s doubleheader with an overall record of 7-12 on the season and a 5-3 mark against non-conference opponents. The Tigers defeated Southern, 6-0, earlier in the season and added non-conference victories over No. 23 South Florida, Southern Miss, Centenary and New Mexico.
The Tigers will face UL-Monroe for the first time this season and the third time ever. LSU currently owns a 2-0 record against UL-Monroe dating back to 1999 when it was called Northeast Louisiana.
The 2002 Southeastern Conference Tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday in Knoxville, Tenn. LSU finished the regular season with a 2-9 record against conference opponents and is the 11th seed in the tournament.
The Tigers are scheduled to play 13th-ranked Auburn in the first round of competition.
