Lady Tigers Depart From SEC Play to Take on Oregon

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team will play its final regular season match against a non-conference opponent on Saturday, as the Lady Tigers host the Oregon Lady Ducks at 1 p.m. at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.

“Oregon is going to be a tough opponent,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “They are a very good team and they play in the PAC-10 conference, which is one of the toughest conferences in the nation. This is our final weekend of the regular season and we want gain some more confidence by earning wins before the SEC Tournament.”

LSU heads into Saturday’s contest with an overall record of 11-10 on the season and a 9-2 mark against non-conference opponents. The Lady Tigers are coming off of a 5-2 win over Tulane on Wednesday that extended their winning streak against in-state rivals to 36 matches.

The Lady Ducks come to Baton Rouge with a 10-9 overall record and a three-match winning streak. In its most-recent contest on March 29, Oregon upset 22nd-ranked Florida International, 4-3, on the road in Miami, Fla. The win capped off a successful road trip for the Lady Ducks that included victories against both South Florida and Central Florida.

In the Southeastern Conference standings, LSU is currently the fourth place team in the Western Division with a 2-8 record against conference opponents.

The Lady Tigers have one SEC match remaining this season, as the team hosts Arkansas on Sunday at 1 p.m. With a win and losses by both Alabama and Ole Miss, LSU would move into a three-way tie for second place in the Western Division.

LSU’s 65th-ranked Bruna Colosio will lead the Lady Tigers into action on Saturday. The three-time All-American from Cascaval, Brazil, currently owns a 14-7 overall singles record and is in the midst of an eight-match winning streak. In doubles play, Colosio teams up with Rocio Fantilli to form the 34th-ranked doubles combination in country. The Lady Tigers’ No. 1 pair is 11-7 on the season.

“Oregon does not have any nationally-ranked singles players or doubles teams, but they are solid throughout their lineup and play very good in doubles,” Minnis said. “It will be important for us to get a good start in the match and then build on the momentum in singles play.”

The LSU women’s tennis team will look to sustain its momentum with another non-conference victory on Saturday, as the Lady Tigers host the Oregon Lady Ducks at 1 p.m. at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium. Admission is free.
