Lady Tigers Tennis Looks For 36th-Straight In-State Win

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team will look to extend its winning streak against in-state opponents to 36-straight matches on Wednesday, as the Lady Tigers host the Tulane Green Wave at 5 p.m. at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.

“Our final SEC match of the season is scheduled for Sunday and I feel that this match will be good for us in that it will help us to stay sharp against good competition,” said 11th-year head coach Tony Minnis. “Tulane has a very talented team and they are capable of beating just about anyone. We need to play some good tennis against them tomorrow.”

The Lady Tigers have not been defeated by a Louisiana team since 1994 when Tulane upended LSU, 6-3. The defeat was Minnis’ lone loss against an in-state rival of his career and the Lady Tigers have gone on to earn 35-consecutive wins since then.

LSU heads into Wednesday’s matchup with an overall record of 10-10 on the season and an 8-2 mark against non-conference opponents. The Lady Tigers finished with a 2-1 Southeastern Conference record last week after the team knocked off 13th-ranked Kentucky 4-3 and blanked Mississippi State 7-0 on the road.

The Green Wave enters the non-conference duel with a 10-9 overall record on the season. On Sunday, Tulane snapped a five-match losing streak against Oklahoma State 4-3 in Stillwater, Okla.

In last season’s annual contest between the two in-state rivals, LSU earned a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the Green Wave in New Orleans. With the win, the Lady Tigers closed out its non-conference schedule and upped its lead in the all-time series against Tulane to 26-2.

The LSU women’s tennis team will look to finish the 2002 dual-match season with an undefeated record against in-state rivals on Wednesday as the Lady Tigers host the Tulane Green Wave at 5 p.m. at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium. Admission is free to all LSU tennis matches.
