NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane University and LSU Athletic Departments have joined forces with the Second Harvesters Food Bank and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank in conjunction with the Green Wave/Tiger baseball game next Wednesday, April 10 in the Louisiana Superdome in an attempt to help the less fortunate in both the New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas.
As Tulane and LSU aim to break the NCAA single-game attendance record, fans planning to attend are encouraged to bring any non-perishable or canned food item to the contest. Bins will be located outside Gates A, C and G at the Superdome beginning at 5 p.m. and will be marked Tulane or LSU. Fans are encouraged to place donations in the bin of their choice upon arriving at the Dome for the contest.
During the game, the total amount of food collected as well as the team collecting the most food will be announced. All of the donations collected will be divided evenly between Second Harvester Food Bank and the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank to help aid the respective charitable organizations in supplying food to the needy.
“We really have a greater demand for food as the summer approaches,” said Michael Hamilton of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. “Most people become more aware of donating around the holidays, but the demand remains the same all year long. Sometimes the shelves get a little thin.”
