BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team is set to complete its rigorous two-match homestand on Sunday, as the Lady Tigers host the 13th-ranked Kentucky Lady Wildcats at noon at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.

“We played really well against a tough Vanderbilt team on Friday and we need to continue to play aggressive tennis versus Kentucky,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “Our singles play has been very competitive lately, but we can’t continue to give up the doubles point against these tough teams and expect to win.”

LSU heads into Sunday’s Southeastern Conference matchup with an overall record of 8-9 on the season and an 0-7 mark versus conference opponents. The Lady Tigers have played one of the nation’s toughest schedules this season and have faced six opponents ranked among the top 25.

Some of the top-notch competition that the Lady Tigers have played against this season include No. 1 Florida, No. 2 Georgia, No. 5 Vanderbilt, No. 12 Tennessee, No. 21 Texas A&M and 24th-ranked South Carolina. Sunday’s contest versus No. 13-ranked Kentucky will be LSU’s fifth match against a top-15 team this season.

Kentucky comes to Baton Rouge with an overall record of 13-4 on the season and a 4-3 mark against SEC foes. The Wildcats’ three conference losses have come against No. 1 Florida, 5-2, No. 2 Georgia, 5-2, and 12th-ranked Tennessee, 5-2. On Friday, Kentucky blanked Arkansas, 7-0, at home in Lexington, Ky.

The Wildcats boast two top-100 ranked singles players and two top-50 ranked doubles teams.

Carolina Mayorga leads Kentucky as the 37th-ranked singles player in the nation, while Sarah Witten is No. 44. In doubles, the Wildcats have both the No. 7-ranked pair and the No. 50 pair. Witten and Mayorga combine to be the seventh-ranked doubles team in the nation and Leigh Bradwell and Lauren Rookledge form the No. 50-ranked pair.

The LSU women’s tennis team will look to earn its first SEC victory of the season on Sunday as the Lady Tigers host the 13th-ranked Kentucky Lady Wildcats at noon at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
