Gymnastics Draws Beam to Begin SEC Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The ninth-ranked LSU gymnastics team will be put to the test right off the bat on Saturday night at the SEC Championships, as the Tigers drew the balance for the first rotation at the official draw at the Bartow Arena Friday afternoon.

“I knew coming into this meet that beam would be the most critical event for us,” said LSU head coach D-D Breaux. “It’s tough to start out on beam right off the bat but we’ve got to go out and hit it, get it over with and know that we have our best events in front of us the rest of the way. I don’t mind starting out on beam at all, I think it can help us because we know we?ll have to be sharp from the start.”

Following beam the Tigers will have a bye before competing on floor and vault. After a second bye LSU will finish the competition on bars, one of its stronger events.

“If we come out and take care of beam then this can really be a good draw for us because I like finishing on bars,” added Breaux. “We’ve been very consistent this season on bars and hopefully we can put ourselves in position to finish strong.”

The SEC Championships will take place on Saturday night at 7 p.m.

Highlights of the meet can be seen on Fox Sports Net (cable channel 37 in Baton Rouge) on March 31 at 3 p.m.
