BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team is set to compete in its second-straight non-conference match on Saturday, as the Tigers host the 23rd-ranked South Florida Bulls at 1 p.m. at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
“We got back on track with a big win yesterday,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “It was the beginning of a new season for us and now we need to sustain the momentum with another huge win. South Florida is a talented team and they are on a roll right now. It ought to be an outstanding collegiate tennis match and hopefully we’ll get good crowd out there to support us.”
LSU continues one of the nation’s most-rigorous schedules on Saturday as they face No. 23 South Florida in a non-conference matchup. The Bulls will be the Tigers’ ninth opponent that is ranked among the top-25 teams in the nation. On Thursday, LSU improved its overall record to 4-8 on the season with a convincing 6-1 victory over Southern Miss.
The Tigers head into the final match of a seven-match homestand on Saturday against the up-and-coming Bulls. South Florida jumped 13 spots in Wednesday’s Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis rankings to become the nation’s No. 23-ranked team. The Bulls possess a 12-2 overall record and are in the midst of a seven-match winning streak.
LSU owns a perfect 4-0 record against South Florida in the all-time series between the two schools. In the last matchup between the two non-conference opponents, the Tigers dropped South Florida, 5-2, in 1999.
