BATON ROUGE — For the third straight week, LSU All-American Britni Sneed was named the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association’s Pitcher of the Week, it was announced on Thursday.
In compiling a 1-0 record last week, Sneed threw her second no-hitter of the season, earning the complete-game 5-0 victory over Southeastern Conference rival Tennessee in Knoxville.
Sneed struck out 16 batters and walked only one, her fifth straight game with 10 or more strikeouts. It was also her sixth shutout in six starts.
The performance marked the third straight time Sneed no-hit Tennessee. She threw a no-hitter and then combined with Sarah Meadors to throw a perfect game in a single weekend against the Lady Vols last season.
For the season, Sneed is now 11-4 with a 1.40 earned-run average while her 163 strikeouts ranks third in the conference.
The fifth-ranked Tigers return to action on Saturday when they host No. 24 South Carolina at Tiger Park in a doubleheader that starts at 2 p.m.
The three-game series will conclude on Sunday with a single game at 11 a.m.
