BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team returns home after a four-match road trip on Tuesday, as the Lady Tigers host Auburn at 10 a.m. in a vital Southeastern Conference battle at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
“It’s definitely going to be good to play in front of our home crowd again,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “We’ve had some very tough matches on the road and a win tomorrow will give us a huge boost. Auburn is playing some good tennis right now and we’ll have to be ready to compete.”
LSU heads into Tuesday’s “morning contest” with an overall record of 7-6 on the season and an 0-4 mark in SEC play. The Lady Tigers concluded an arduous road swing on Sunday which featured tough matches against No. 1 Georgia, No. 5 Florida, No. 10 Tennessee and 22nd-ranked South Carolina.
The Auburn Lady Tigers come into Baton Rouge with 9-3 overall record and are in the midst of a two-match winning streak. Auburn knocked off both Ole Miss, 4-3, and Mississippi State, 6-1, last weekend to improve its conference record to 3-2 this season.
Tuesday’s SEC match between LSU and Auburn was originally scheduled for March 3 before an incessant rain storm washed out the original contest. The match was then rescheduled for March 19 at 10 a.m. due to the fact that LSU has to fly to Tulsa, Okla., on Tuesday night. The Lady Tigers will face Tulsa at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Last season, LSU won its second-consecutive match against Auburn by posting a crucial 4-3 victory at home in the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
With the win, the Lady Tigers increased their lead in the all-time series to 17-7. In 1999, Auburn earned its most-recent victory over the Lady Tigers by a score of 5-4.
The LSU women’s tennis team looks to pick up a huge SEC victory on Tuesday, as the Lady Tigers host Auburn at 10 a.m. at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium. Admission is free to all LSU home matches and coffee and bagels will be served beginning at 9 a.m. Tee-shirts and prizes will also be awarded between the doubles and singles competitions.
