GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The LSU women’s tennis team was defeated by the fifth-ranked Florida Gators, 7-0, on Sunday at the Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex in Gainesville, Fla.
“Florida is one of the best teams in the nation,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “Right now they are No. 5 and it is very hard to play against them on their home courts. We never really got our minds in the match today, and they took advantage of it from the start.”
With the loss, the Lady Tigers fell to an overall record of 7-4 on the season and an 0-2 mark against Southeastern Conference opponents. Florida improved to 7-0 in dual-match play and upped its conference record to an undefeated 4-0.
The Lady Gators swept the doubles matches to earn an early 1-0 lead in the contest. Florida then rallied off straight-set victories on all six singles courts to win the match, 7-0. With the win, the Lady Gators improved their all-time record at home against SEC opponents to 105-0.
The LSU women’s tennis team will next be in action on Friday, March 15, as the Lady Tigers remain on the road to face the 10th-ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers at 4 p.m.
