GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The LSU women’s tennis team continues its taxing stretch of road matches on Sunday, as the Lady Tigers challenge the fifth-ranked Florida Lady Gators at 1 p.m. in Gainesville, Fla.
“Playing on the road is always tough,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “The Southeastern Conference is the best league in the nation and Florida is always one of the top teams in the conference. We just need to go out and play some competitive tennis tomorrow and then some things will fall into place for us.”
LSU opened SEC play on Friday against No. 23 South Carolina and fell at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Stadium, 6-1. With the loss, the Lady Tigers dropped to 7-3 on the season and head into Sunday’s duel with an 0-1 conference mark.
LSU’s non-conference losses this season came against some of the nation’s best teams in No. 19 Texas A&M and No. 35 Florida State.
The Lady Gators enter Sunday’s conference matchup with an undefeated record on the season. Florida owns a perfect 6-0 mark in dual-match play and improved to 3-0 in the conference by sweeping Arkansas on Friday, 7-0.
With the win, Florida posted its first shutout of the season and improved its all-time record against SEC opponents to 104-0. The Lady Gators dropped LSU last season, 6-1, at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium in Baton Rouge.
The LSU women’s tennis team looks to upset the fifth-ranked Florida Lady Gators on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Gainesville, Fla., at the Linder Tennis Stadium.
