AUSTIN, Texas — The LSU women’s swimmers will compete at the 2002 University of Texas Bevo Invitational on Saturday at Austin, Texas.

Texas will host the meet which includes 18 events and school such as TCU, Houston, Kansas and Texas A&M. The meet will begin at 6 p.m. The Lady Tigers are coming off of a fourth-place finish at the 2002 Southeastern Conference Championships last week at Fayetteville, Ark. LSU swept the platform diving competition at the meet and were in first place after three days of competition.

LSU made 13 NCAA “B” Cuts and two “A” Cuts at the SEC Championships. Senior All-American Mandy Leach made two “A” Cuts in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. She also made the “B” Cut in the 100-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle.

“Our main goal for this meet is to swim fast and try to qualify more swimmers for the NCAA Championships,” said LSU head coach Jeff Cavana. “So far we have qualified three swimmers and there are several others that are on the bubble, so we will do our best to qualify in Austin this weekend.”

The women’s NCAA Championships will be held on March 21-23 in Austin. The men’s championships are March 28-30 at Athens, Ga.
