BATON ROUGE — LSU coach Nick Saban will receive the Touchdown Club of Atlanta’s Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year Award on Saturday at the Cobb Galleria Center in Marietta, Ga.
Saban, who was among seven finalist for the Bear Bryant National Coach of the Year Award, led the Tigers to a 10-3 overall mark and to a 31-20 victory over then second-ranked Tennessee in the SEC Championship game for the school’s first outright league title since 1986.
LSU capped its season with a 47-34 victory over then-No. 7 ranked Illinois in the Nokia Sugar Bowl.
In two years with the Tigers, Saban has guided LSU to an 18-7 overall mark and a 10-6 league record. Included in Saban’s 18 wins with LSU are seven wins over top 25 teams.
Among the other honors to be handed out on Saturday by the Touchdown Club of Atlanta are National and ACC Coach of the Year (Ralph Friedgen, Maryland) and Big East Conference Coach of the Year (Larry Coker, Miami).
