BATON ROUGE — The LSU softball team remained No. 5 in the nation according to the latest USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, which was releases Wednesday.
The Tigers are ranked fifth for the second consecutive week after opening the year in the fourth spot. LSU went 4-2 last week with a win over No. 13 Fresno State while dropping one-run games to No. 9 Nebraska and No. 18 Alabama.
The Cornhuskers, who won the NFCA Leadoff Classic, jumped to No. 4 in the poll, behind UCLA, Arizona and Stanford. Alabama made the second largest jump, moving up four spots to No. 14.
The Southeastern Conference was once again represented with five teams as Georgia, Mississippi State and South Carolina registered in at 21st, 22nd and 25th, respectively. Georgia owns the nation’s best record at 21-0.
LSU returns to action this weekend in the Purple and Gold Challenge, a three-day event that begins at Noon on Friday at Tiger Park.
