BATON ROUGE — Coming off another heartbreaking loss to 18th-ranked Georgia on Saturday, the LSU men’s basketball team gathers in the Maravich Assembly Center Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the final home game of the 2001-2002 season against the Ole Miss Rebels.
It will be Senior Night for three LSU seniors – Pete Bozek, Jason Wilson and Jermaine Williams. Brief ceremonies honoring those three will be held prior to the game beginning at 6:50 p.m.
There is no live television for the game, although it will be shown on a tape delay basis on Fox 44 in Baton Rouge beginning at 9 p.m. The live radio broadcast will be available on the LSU Sports Network (Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge) and on the Internet at www.LSUsports.net. Tickets for the game are priced at $10 and will be available beginning 90 minutes prior to tipoff at the Assembly Center.
LSU is 14-13 overall entering the final week of the season and 4-10 in the SEC. The Tigers need one win this week to assure itself of a non-losing regular season and two wins to assure an overall winning record. The Tigers close the regular season at Auburn on Saturday at 1 p.m. before taking part March 7-10 in the Southeastern Conference Tournament at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga.
Ole Miss is 19-8 overall and 8-6, tied for second with Mississippi State entering the final week. This is the third straight year that Ole Miss and LSU have met in the Tigers’ final home game of the season.
LSU is coming off a heartbreaking 55-54 loss to Georgia last Saturday, a game in which LSU had a 54-51 lead in the final minute.
“Well, we lost a one-point game to Georgia and I don’t know if we could do any better,” said LSU coach John Brady. “Our problem is the same as the last three weeks or so, we just cannot score. You would think if you hold Georgia to 53 points at home, you would win, but that was not the case.”
“After watching tape of LSU, I think John Brady has done a great job,” said Ole Miss coach Rod Barnes. “They have lost about five games that were really close that could have gone either way, so we are going to have our work cut out for us.”
LSU will go with its standard lineup of late: Torris Bright and Antonio Hudson at guards and Williams, Brad Bridgewater and Ronald Dupree at the forwards.
