BATON ROUGE — Lady Tigers Aiysha Smith and Doneeka Hodges were named to the All-Southeastern Conference basketball team as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Smith, a junior from Detroit, Mich., was named to the first team, while Hodges, a sophomore from New Orleans, earned a spot on the second team.
The leading scorer and rebounder for the Lady Tigers, Smith started every game for LSU this season after transferring from Tyler Junior College a year ago. Scoring in double-figures in all 25 games, she has recorded seven double-doubles on her way to averaging 16.4 points and 7.9 rebounds a game.
The SEC and LSWA Player of the Week for Feb. 18, Smith scored a career-high 23 points against both Ole Miss and Vanderbilt and pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds against Arkansas.
Hodges ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 15 points a game and leads the team in three-point shooting with 46 three’s this season. She currently ranks eighth in three-pointers made in a single season in LSU history. In addition, she ranks second on the team with 92 assists, ranking her seventh among sophomores in assists in school history.
Against Florida, Hodges scored a career-high 29 points and recorded her first collegiate double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds against Ole Miss.
With the regular season complete, the Lady Tigers will travel to Nashville for the SEC Tournament this weekend. Entering the tournament as the fourth seed, LSU earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of the Mississippi State-Kentucky game on Friday at 6 p.m. in the Gaylord Entertainment Center.
