BATON ROUGE — The LSU softball team dropped one spot in the latest USA Today/NFCA poll to the No. 5 position, it was announced Wednesday.
The Tigers (8-3), which had been ranked fourth in the preseason, were leapfrogged by Oklahoma which has started the season a perfect 8-0.
All three of LSU’s losses have come against ranked foes, including one to current No. 1 UCLA, which took over the top spot with a 13-0 mark.
Previously top-ranked Arizona fell to third while Stanford took over the No. 2 slot.
The Southeastern Conference placed two more teams in the poll than it did in the preseason as Georgia came in at No. 23 after a 15-0 record to open the year, including a win over nationally ranked Florida State.
Mississippi State, which knocked off defending national champion Arizona, is currently 24th. Alabama, ranked 18th and South Carolina, ranked 20th, remained in the top 25.
Nebraska, a team LSU beat this past weekend and faces in the upcoming NFCA LeadOff Classic, moved into the top ten at No. 9.
