LSU Announces Partnership With YWCA

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s athletic programs and the YWCA have joined together in a partnership to help increase awareness for both, the athletic department announced on Tuesday.

The goal of the partnership is to increase attendance at LSU women’s athletic events while also increasing the exposure and generating support for various YWCA programs.

“The YWCA is one of the great organizations in the world,” said LSU athletic director Skip Bertman. “People don’t realize just how far reaching it is. To have the local YWCA involved is just great for us and to come together and bring it into the school is a great thing, especially for our women’s programs.”

The partnership will get kicked off with YWCA Basketball Night on Thursday when the Lady Tigers close out the home schedule against Mississippi State. The YWCA will sponsor halftime events with support from Gerry Lane Chevrolet featuring prize giveaways including a DVD player.

Members of the LSU men’s and women’s golf team will chip practice balls into the crowd at halftime. Those balls will be labeled with prizes and fans that catch the balls will win those prizes.

The YWCA will also join forces with Bank One for a similar event at the gymnastics meet on March 15 against Centenary and Rhode Island. Other future activities include LSU team members visiting with various YWCA middle and high school students discussing the importance of education and setting goals.
