Tigers Continue Postseason Dreams at South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The LSU Tigers, winners of two straight Southeastern Conference games and coming off a strong road win Saturday at Arkansas, go on the road again Wednesday night to take on the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.

Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CST at Carolina Coliseum/Frank McGuire Arena.

There is no television for the game which will be broadcast on radio in Louisiana on the LSU Sports Network (Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge) and on the Internet at www.lsusports.net.

The Tigers are 14-11 overall and 4-8 in the Southeastern Conference Western Division, probably two wins away from making the NIT field of 40. South Carolina is 15-10 overall and 5-7 in the SEC Eastern Division.

The Tigers Ronald Dupree coming is coming off the first 30-point game of the year for the Tigers, getting his career high against the Razorbacks Saturday. He is virtually tied for the league lead in rebounds after averaging 10.5 boards over the last two weeks.

“Our team is feeling pretty good because we’ve been able to win a couple of league games,” said LSU Coach John Brady. “To go into Arkansas and play the way we played was good for us. We just stayed with what we’ve been doing and the last couple of games went our way. I think Dave Odom has done a good job at South Carolina and they have done a good job of holding teams below their normal scoring average.”

But so has LSU, which should mean another tight, physical defensive struggle. The Gamecocks are coming off a 66-43 beating of Vanderbilt in Nashville in their last start. Jamel Bradley leads USC in scoring averaging 13.8 points per game, while Aaron Lucas averaging 10.5 points per contest.

LSU returns home on Saturday for a 3 p.m. game at the Maravich Assembly Center against the University of Georgia, the first of the final two home games for the 2002 season.
