BATON ROUGE — The LSU gymnastics team remained eighth in the nation following a tough-fought loss at No. 15 Denver on Saturday, their fifth straight week straight week in the Top 10 in the nation.

Despite the loss, the Tigers season average actually moved up to a high of 195.603 after posting their highest road score of the season in the loss to Denver, a score of 195.825.

Georgia held on to the No. 1 ranking, followed by Utah, Alabama, Nebraska and Michigan to round out the top five. The Tigers season average is actually less than two-tenths of a point out of being in the top five in the nation and is closer than the distance between LSU and the No. 9 team in the nation.

The Tigers are ranked in the top 12 in the nation in all four disciplines, holding the No. 5 spot on vault, the No. 9 spot in both floor and bars and the No. 12 position on beam.

Individually, Nicki Arnstad assumed the No. 1 spot in the nation on floor despite not competing last weekend with a mid-foot sprain. Sharene Mamby sits in the No. 11 spot in the nation on bars, while Marina Degteva is ranked 15th on vault.

The Tigers host No. 21 Iowa on Friday evening at 7 p.m., their sixth consecutive dual meet with a ranked opponent.
