BATON ROUGE — LSU senior golfer Nathan Goulding was named the Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week, the league office announced in a release on Wednesday afternoon.
Goulding is the second player to win the honor this season in the conference. South Carolina’s Martin Rominger was named the first player of the week on Feb. 6.
Goulding, a native of Cohuna, Australia, fired a 6-under par 204 this past weekend at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., to lead the Tigers to their first tournament victory of the season and the first at the Gator Invitational since 1988. Goulding finished in a tie for second place, four strokes behind medalist Graeme McDowell of Alabama-Birmingham.
Goulding’s final total is the best of his career, and the second-place tie is the best finish of his career as well. It was also Goulding’s third-career top-10 finish.
Goulding became the first LSU golfer to win the award since Alan Morgan did so last April. The Tigers will next travel to the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship on Feb. 18-19 at Ponte Vedra, Fla.
