Lee Named SEC Track Athlete of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU All-American Muna Lee was named SEC Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week after winning both the 60 and 200-meter titles at the “Meet of Champions” Armory Invitational in New York City this past weekend.

Lee improved to 7-0 against NCAA competitors in the two events this season. Her winning time of 7.25 in the 60-meter dash was just off her season best, while her winning time of 23.19 in the 200-meter dash represents the top mark in the nation this season.

Lee’s strong performance also helped the Lady Tigers soar to the No. 1 ranking in the nation on Tuesday, up from a No. 6 ranking the previous week.

The 2001 NCAA runner-up in the 200-meter dash became the first LSU athlete to earn the honor this season.

The defending SEC Indoor champion in the deuce, Lee and her Lady Tiger teammates will have one final outing on Friday at the LSU Twilight before heading to next week’s SEC Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, where they will battle with Arkansas, South Carolina and Florida for the league crown.
