DALLAS — The LSU women’s tennis team earned its ninth-straight victory over the Southern Methodist Lady Mustangs on Tuesday, as the Lady Tigers outlasted SMU, 4-3, on the road in Dallas, Texas.
“We didn’t play our best tennis today,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “We played okay and I think that considering the circumstances we did what we needed to do to win. It’s always a tough situation for us to play on the road and SMU was coming off of a huge victory over Arkansas.”
LSU’s 87th-ranked Tami Botts picked up her 10th-straight victory on Tuesday, as the Lady Tigers’ senior from Ashland, Ore., defeated SMU’s Jennifer Langer, 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-2, on court No. 2. With the win, Botts upped her overall singles record to 15-3 on the season. She is a perfect 7-0 in dual matches.
With the win, the Lady Tigers improved to a 6-1 overall record and the LSU women’s tennis team rebounded from a 4-3 loss to Florida State on Saturday.
The Lady Tigers increased their lead in the all-time series record against SMU to 13-2 and notched its ninth-straight victory over the Lady Mustangs.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the non-conference contest on Tuesday, as LSU swept all three doubles courts to pick up the doubles point. The Lady Tigers have earned the vital doubles point in all four of its dual matches in which doubles were played.
In singles play, LSU’s All-America Bruna Colosio, was victorious on court No. 1, while Amy McIlhaney earned a crucial win on court No. 5. Colosio defeated SMU’s Kit Carson in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, and McIlhaney dropped Siayerah Rambally, 7-6(3), 6-2.
The LSU women’s tennis team will next be in action on Saturday, Feb. 16, as the Lady Tigers host the Houston Lady Cougars at noon in the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
