BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s track and field team has skyrocketed from No. 6 to No. 1 in the nation in this week’s Trackwire national rankings, following a tremendous outing at the “Meet of Champions” Armory Invitational in New York City this past weekend.

LSU dominated the field, getting wins from Muna Lee in both the 60 and 200-meter dashes, and a convincing win from Marian Burnett amidst a tough field in the 800-meter run.

Further solidifying the Lady Tigers’ tremendous outing were NCAA automatic qualifying marks from Stephanie Durst in the 200-meter dash, Ronetta Smith in the 400-meter dash and Nicole Toney in the triple jump.

The Lady Tigers assumed the lead with 51 points by virtue of having seven athletes ranked in the top five in the nation in their respective events. Arizona sits in second place in the poll with 44 points, followed by South Carolina, Florida and two-time defending NCAA Indoor Champion UCLA.

The Tigers continue to hold the No. 3 spot in the men’s poll, a position the defending NCAA Indoor Champions have held all season long. NCAA Outdoor champion Tennessee continues to own the top spot followed by Arkansas.

LSU will be at home on Friday evening for its final regular season meet, the LSU Twilight at the Carl Maddox Field House. Field events get underway at 3 p.m., while track events start at 6 p.m.
