DALLAS — The LSU women’s tennis team will look to rebound from its first loss of the season on Tuesday, as the Lady Tigers face the Southern Methodist Lady Mustangs at 2 p.m. here in Dallas, Texas.

“This is definitely going to be another challenging match for us,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “It’s always tough to play on the road and SMU is a very good team. We didn’t play our best against Florida State and now we have to come out and put the pieces together tomorrow versus SMU.”

LSU heads into Tuesday’s non-conference battle with an overall record of 5-1 on the season. The Lady Tigers opened the season with five-straight home wins over Centenary, Southern, Purdue, Louisiana Tech and Louisiana-Monroe before being tripped up by Florida State, 4-3, on the road in Tallahassee, Fla., on Saturday.

The Lady Mustangs own a 3-1 overall record heading into their match versus LSU. The SMU women’s tennis team opened its season against Ole Miss and fell at home, 5-2, before reeling off three-straight wins against Arkansas, UT-Pan Am and Abilene Christian. The Lady Mustangs come into Tuesday’s contest as the 55th-ranked team in the nation.

In last season’s matchup between LSU and SMU, the Lady Tigers dropped SMU at home in the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium by a score of 5-2. With the win, LSU improved its overall record against the Lady Mustangs to 12-2 and won its eighth-straight contest versus SMU. The Lady Tigers have not been defeated by SMU since an 8-1 loss to the Lady Mustangs in 1979.

“A win against SMU will really help us gain some momentum before the beginning of conference play,” Minnis said. “We play a really tough schedule this season and a win tomorrow will be a positive for us.”

The LSU women’s tennis team will look to earn its sixth win of the season on Tuesday, as the Lady Tigers travel to Dallas, Texas, to face the Southern Methodist Lady Mustangs at 2 p.m.
