Lady Tiger Tennis Travel to Florida State

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team will compete in its first road match of the season on Saturday, as the Lady Tigers head to Tallahassee, Fla., to meet the Florida State Lady Seminoles at 11 a.m.

“Florida State is a very good team. We played them in a close match last season and we’re playing good tennis right now,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. AWe need to make sure that we come ready to play and if we do that, then we should be able to pick up a big win.”

LSU heads into Saturday’s contest with a perfect 5-0 record. Last week, the Lady Tigers demolished both Louisiana Tech, 6-0, and Louisiana-Monroe, 7-0, in Baton Rouge at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium. With the wins, LSU increased its winning streak against in-state rivals to 34-straight matches.

The Lady Seminoles come into the non-conference battle with a 3-1 overall record. Florida State defeated Florida A&M and Georgia Southern to open the season before the Lady Seminoles were slain by Vanderbilt, 7-0. In its most recent contest, Florida State squeaked by Central Florida at home 4-3.

“It’s always really tough to go down to Florida State and pick up a win,” Minnis said. “But I think that if we stay focused and concentrate on the end result, then we can win the match. This is just one of the tougher matches on our schedule and I think that by playing a tough schedule it improves our team in the long run.”

Last season, LSU met the Lady Seminoles in Baton Rouge and earned a 4-3 victory over Florida State. The win proved to be Lady Tigers’ first victory over Florida State since 1990.
