BATON ROUGE — Seventh-ranked Kentucky comes to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center Saturday for a noon contest with the LSU Fighting Tigers.
Kentucky (15-6, 5-4) comes in off an overtime loss at Tennessee, while the Tigers (12-10, 2-7) are trying to rebound from a five-game losing streak.
Tickets for the contest are available at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center beginning 90 minutes prior to tipoff. The game will be televised regionally in the Southeast by Jefferson Pilot Sports and on radio by the LSU Sports Network (Eagle 98.1 FM) and on the Internet at
The Tigers are again bothered by injuries as Collis Temple III is expected to miss the game after respraining his right ankle on Wednesday late in the Vanderbilt game. It is the same ankle he first sprained on Dec. 15 and the one in which he has a partially torn tendon.
The starters were not known as of Friday afternoon, but Brad Bridgewater could join Thomas Davis down on the low block if LSU wants to go big, or Jermaine Williams or JueMichael Young could get the call. Ronald Dupree is the leading scorer for the Tigers with a 17 points per game average and three straight double doubles in league play.
Kentucky Coach Tubby Smith will be trying to win his 250th career games. He is 249-101 as a head coach and is trying to become the seventh coach in NCAA history to reach 250 in seasons.
The Tigers again had chances to win at Vanderbilt, but six consecutive three pointers by Vandy late and the Tigers 4-of-11 free throw shooting were too much for LSU to overcome.
“Well our team played well enough to win at Vanderbilt,” said LSU Coach John Brady. “It just comes down to your team being prepared to win the tough games and things just didn’t happen for us down the stretch. Kentucky is going to come down here looking to pick things back up after their recent loss, so we have to come up with a good plan. We’ve got to figure out how to play without Collis Temple.”
