Lady Tigers Look For Repeat Performance Against Ole Miss

BATON ROUGE — After the largest LSU victory over Ole Miss in school history on Jan. 17, 88-57, the 25th-ranked Lady Tigers will face the Lady Rebels once again, this time in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Sunday at 2 p.m.

As part of the “Super Sunday” festivities, member of the 2001 SEC Champion LSU football team will be signing autographs prior to the start of the game and the public is encouraged to bring items to be signed.

The Lady Tigers (11-7, 4-3 SEC) had a week off to prepare for the Lady Rebels after a 64-53 loss to No. 6 Vanderbilt in the Pack the PMAC VI game in front of the second-largest crowd in LSU history – 8,153 fans, last Sunday.

Ole Miss (10-11, 2-6 SEC) recorded their most impressive win of the season, a 63-53 victory over nationally ranked Auburn on the road on Thursday.

“When we went to Oxford in January, we played really well and executed our game plan the way we wanted to and came away with a really big win,” said LSU head coach Sue Gunter. “Ole Miss is a tough team and just beat Auburn on the road on Thursday, so we can’t be overconfident because we beat them at their place. We need to stay focused on what we need to do to win.”

Junior Aiysha Smith leads the team in scoring and rebounding averaging 15.1 points and 7.4 rebounds a game. Sophomore Temeka Johnson leads the SEC in assists in conference play.

In the first game against Ole Miss, Johnson broke the 25-year-ole LSU record with 15 assists, which ranks fourth in the nation this season. She also had a then-career-high nine points.

The Hodges twins, Doneeka and Roneeka, also had a big game for the Lady Tigers, with 23 and 21 points respectively. It marked the only time this season that two players have scored more than 20 points in one game.

LSU remains at home to face nationally ranked Auburn on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
