Gymnastics Moves to 10th in Rankings, Hosts No. 1 Friday

BATON ROUGE — For the second time in three years, the Utah gymnastics team will come to the Maravich Assembly Center with the No. 1-ranking, as the Utes seized the top spot in the GymInfo National Rankings.

The LSU gymnastics team fell from fifth to No. 10 in the latest rankings, following a loss to Florida in Gainesville on Friday night. The Tigers host Utah on Friday evening at 7 p.m.

Two years ago Utah invaded the PMAC with the No. 1 ranking and suffered a shocking 195.125-194.800 loss to the Tigers. It marked LSU’s first victory over a top-ranked team.

Previous No.1 Georgia fell one spot to No. 2, followed by Oklahoma, Nebraska and Alabama to round out the top five. Alabama will come to the PMAC next Friday evening.

Iowa State, Arizona, UCLA, Michigan and LSU round out the top 10.

The Tigers continue to be ranked in the top five in the nation in two events, ranking fourth on vault and fifth on floor.

Individually, the floor competition could be a showdown on Friday night, as LSU’s Nicki Arnstad ranks second in the nation, while 1996 U.S. Olympic alternate Theresa Kulikowski of Utah holds the top spot.
