Lady Tigers Host No. 7 Vandy in Pack the PMAC VI

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s basketball will host nationally ranked Vanderbilt in the sixth annual Pack the PMAC game on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

The 24th-ranked Lady Tigers (11-6, 4-2 SEC) are riding a three-game winning streak and have won four of their last five games by over 20 points per game. LSU has also won five straight games at home.

No. 7 Vanderbilt (18-4, 4-2 SEC) lost to nationally ranked Florida, 62-51 at home on Thursday, snapping the Lady Commodores’ six-game winning streak.

“We have been playing very well in our last few games and will need to play extremely well to beat Vanderbilt,” said LSU head coach Sue Gunter. “Vanderbilt is ranked in the top 10 for a reason. They returned their entire team from last season, a team that went all the way to the NCAA Elite Eight, including preseason SEC Player of the Year Chantelle Anderson. This should be a great game and having a loud, excited crowd could play an important part in helping us pick up a win.”

Thousands of free tickets are available at all Baton Rouge area McDonald’s locations, as well as Baton Rouge Winn Dixie stores, both Tiger Mania locations and Levis Mitsubishi. Fans can also download a printable copy of a ticket from the LSU website www.LSUsports.net. For larger blocks of tickets, you can contact the LSU women’s basketball office at (225) 578-6643.

“Pack the PMAC has really become a wonderful event over the last few years,” said LSU head coach Sue Gunter. “The Baton Rouge community has really gotten behind us and this year we think that they will get to see a good game against Vanderbilt. We want to get at least 10,000 fans to the game and once again break the attendance record.”

Levis Mitsubishi has once again donated a car for the Flying Frenzy contest at halftime. The first 5,000 fans through the doors will receive a flyer that will give them the chance to win a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse. If a fan can fly their paper airplane through the sunroof of the Eclipse, that fan will drive away in the car. In 1999-00, Rich Bisson became the first person in the history of the event to win the vehicle.

In addition, LSU students will have an opportunity to win $500 just by showing up and registering their name in a drawing. One lucky LSU student is guaranteed to leave with $500.

Other giveaways include great prizes such as televisions, DVD players, home surround sound systems, satellite systems with installation and gift certificates from Tiger Mania and Winn Dixie.

Since the first Pack the PMAC contest in 1997, LSU has had the school’s 10 largest crowds, which includes eight crowds of 5,000 or better. Prior to 1997, the Lady Tigers had never played before a crowd larger than 2,500 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Five of LSU’s top six home crowds have come at Pack the PMAC.

Last year, Pack the PMAC V drew a school-record 9,636 fans, the largest attendance ever at a women’s basketball game in the state of Louisiana.
