Men’s Tennis Adds Transfer Ross

BATON ROUGE — The 15th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team added some much-needed depth on Friday, as the Tigers officially signed sophomore Cory Ross to join the LSU squad during the 2002 season.

“Cory is going to be a valuable addition to our team this season,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “He’s a very talented player and he is going to bring with him an even greater since of competitiveness to both our singles and doubles lineups. We’re very glad that we were able to have him come join our program.”

Ross, a native of Littleton, Colo., joined the Tigers for the spring semester after competing for the Baylor Bears as a freshman in 2001. The talented transfer will be able to compete for LSU during the 2002 dual season.

In his initial collegiate season, Ross accumulated a 24-16 overall record and earned a spot in the Baylor record books for recording the 10th-most wins in a single season. He competed mainly at the No. 6 position for the Bears and earned an 11-6 mark during the dual-match season.

In high school, Ross was the No. 1 ranked player in Colorado during both his junior and senior seasons. He won the state championship in 2000 after finishing the year with an overall 15-1 record.

Ross and the 15th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team will begin its 2002 dual-match season on Saturday, as the Tigers face both Centenary and Southern in an season-opening doubleheader at the W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
