BATON ROUGE — Two-time All-American Mandy Leach was named the Southeastern Conference Athlete of the Week, it was announced Wednesday by the Southeastern Conference.
The senior from Harare, Zimbabwe, won three events in LSU’s meet against Texas A&M last Friday in Baton Rouge. Leach won both the 100 and 200 freestyle events, and also finished first in the 100-yard butterfly. She swam the 100-free in a time of 51.44 and she finished the 200 in a time of 1:51.84. Leach won the 100-fly with a time of 55.24, setting a new school record and an LSU Natatorium record.
“This is a great accomplishment for Mandy, she really works hard and deserves this recognition,” said LSU head coach Jeff Cavana.
Leach represented Zimbabwe on the 2000 Olympic Team and is the LSU record holder in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard freestyle. She is also team captain of this year’s squad.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Feb. 2 when they host three teams at the LSU Natatorium.
