Lady Tigers Travel to No. 2 Tennessee

BATON ROUGE — Coming off their most dominating performance of the season, the Lady Tiger basketball team travels to Knoxville, Tenn. to face the second-ranked Lady Vols of Tennessee on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT in Thompson-Boling Arena. The game will be televised locally on FoxSports Southwest, Cox cable channel 37.

After defeating nationally ranked Florida by 25 points on Thursday, the Lady Tigers (8-5, 1-1 SEC) will face their toughest opponent this season at Tennessee (13-1, 2-0 SEC). The Lady Vols’ only loss this season was to No. 1 Connecticut, a game that snapped Tennessee’s 26-game home winning streak. The game will be the fourth straight against a ranked opponent for LSU.

“We had a big win against Florida on Thursday and we need to keep that momentum building as we take on Tennessee,” said LSU head coach Sue Gunter. “Tennessee is one of the best teams in the country and we will need to play an incredible game to defeat them at home, one of the toughest places to play in the country.”

The Lady Tigers go to Knoxville trying to pick up their first ever win at Tennessee. In 14 previous meetings, LSU has never won at Tennessee. Thompson-Boling Arena is largest on-campus arena in the country and Tennessee has lost just six games there in the past seven years.

Against Florida, sophomore Doneeka Hodges had a career-high 29 points while sophomore Temeka Johnson tied LSU’s single game assist record with 14 assists. Johnson’s mark tied the 25-year old record set by Brenda McGuffee against Alabama on Feb. 5, 1977.

The 84-59 victory over the Lady Gators was LSU’s first win over a ranked opponent in six tries this season. The 25-point win was also the Lady Tigers largest margin of victory over a ranked opponent in three years.

The Lady Tigers continue play on the road next week at Ole Miss on Jan. 17 in Oxford, Miss. at 7 p.m.
