BATON ROUGE — LSU head women’s golf coach Karen Bahnsen announced on Wednesday that the school has named former Ole Miss star golfer Marci Kornegay as the new women’s assistant golf coach effective immediately.
Kornegay, a native of Savannah, Ga., will join the 14th-ranked Lady Tigers for the spring semester which will feature two important events at the LSU University Club which she will help with: the annual LSU-Cleveland Golf Classic, April 5-7 and the NCAA East Regional Tournament, scheduled for May 9-11.
Kornegay received her Bachelor of Arts in Leisure Management in 2001 from Ole Miss after an outstanding four-year career at the Oxford university. She was the 2001 team captain and the two-time winner of the team leadership award and a three-time holder of the Rebel award for cumulative low score.
The former collegiate star was also deeply involved in the CHAMPS Life skills program at Ole Miss, earning the Extra Effort Award twice from the Athletic Department. She was also a member of the Academic Honor Roll during her time at Ole Miss.
Kornegay also worked this past year as a tournament operations intern for the American Junior Golf Association which conducts tournaments for the top junior golfers throughout the country and served two summers as an administrative assistant in the University of Mississippi Athletic Office.
“We are all excited about Marci coming to join us at LSU,” said Bahnsen. “This will be a great addition for our program. Marci knows the SEC, knows many of the players and can help in many facets of the program that we can now handle more completely. She will be a valuable assistance in our practice program and preparation for upcoming events.”
