BATON ROUGE — The LSU Tigers, off 10 days for final exams, resume play Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center against a third straight in-state opponent, the McNeese State University Cowboys.
Tickets for the game are available at $10 each beginning at 5 p.m. at the ticket office at the Maravich Assembly Center. The game will not be televised live, but will be seen on a tape delay basis in the Baton Rouge area on WGMB TV (Fox 44) beginning at 9 p.m. The live radio broadcast of the game can be heard on the LSU Sports Network (Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge) and on the Internet at
The Tigers are 7-1 on the season, winners of five straight since dropping the first game of the Big Island Invitational to Weber State on Nov. 23.
McNeese is also on a win streak of its own, having won its last three contests, to even its record at 4-4. The Cowboys are 0-2 against Southeastern Conference foes Alabama and Auburn on the road, but the Cowboys lost to Auburn by just three points, 77-74.
“We have to respect McNeese State in the same way we respected Northwestern State and ULL,” said LSU Coach John Brady after a crisp 75-minute practice on Friday. “We have to be ready to play, be ready to get down in a stance and defend and do the things necessary for us to win the game.”
In LSU’s last win, an 83-65 triumph over Louisiana-Lafayette, Ronald Dupree had a career high 29 points, while Collis Temple III made it four straight games over 20 points for the Baton Rouge junior. That’s the longest 20-plus point streak at LSU since Ronnie Henderson went 11 games straight back in 1996.
Speaking of streaks, LSU puts two others on the line in the game against McNeese State. LSU will be trying to win for the 40th straight game against Louisiana opposition at home and for the 34th consecutive game against non-conference teams. The Louisiana win streak dates back to 1989.
LSU goes on the road Tuesday to Lakefront Arena to take on the University of New Orleans. That game now carries an 8 p.m. start time and tickets are available through the Lakefront Arena Box Office (504-280-4263). LSU’s final home game before Christmas is Thursday night, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. against Houston. That game will be regionally televised on Fox Sports Net’s SEC-TV package.
