Three Tigers Named to Freshman All-SEC Teams

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Michael Clayton, Ben Wilkerson and Marcus Spears have all been named to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman team.

Wilkerson, a center from Hemphill, Texas, earned a spot on both the SEC Coaches’ All-Freshman team as well as the Knoxville News Freshman All-SEC team. Spears, a tight end/defensive end from Baton Rouge, was named to the SEC Coaches’ team, while Clayton, a wide receiver from Baton Rouge, earned a spot on the Knoxville News team.

Wilkerson started the final seven regular-season games for the Tigers after being inserted into the lineup against Kentucky. The Tigers posted a 6-1 mark with Wilkerson in the starting lineup.

Clayton caught 43 passes for 700 yards, both of which rank among the top 10 in the SEC. Clayton also scored seven touchdowns for the Tigers, including the game-winner with 13 seconds left against Kentucky. Six of Clayton’s touchdowns came through the air, which included a 67-yard TD against Tennessee and a 60-yarder against Arkansas. Clayton also scored on a 29-yard run against Ole Miss.

Spears saw action on both sides of the ball for the Tigers. He caught two passes for 20 yards on offense and he recorded eight tackles and one sack on defense.
