BATON ROUGE — Josh Reed, LSU’s record-setting wide receiver, continued to rack up the honors on Tuesday as he was named to the CNNSI.com All-America team, the news service announced.
Reed, a junior from Rayne, La., has caught an LSU record 90 passes for a Southeastern Conference record 1,680 yards and seven touchdowns this year for the 8-3 Tigers.
Reed enters Saturday’s SEC Championship game against second-ranked Tennessee with 2,941 career receiving yards, only 24 yards shy of becoming the league’s all-time leader in receiving yards. Boo Mitchell of Vanderbilt holds the mark with 2,964 receiving yards.
This year, Reed has set or broken 11 LSU and SEC records. Reed’s best performance came in a 35-21 win over Alabama when he caught an SEC record 19 passes for a conference record 293 yards.
Reed also has an LSU record 10 100-yard games this season and for his career, he owns the school mark with 17.
Reed, a one of three finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, has already been named first team All-America by the Football Writer’s Association.
Reed is one of five SEC players on the squad. He’s joined by on the team by quarterback Rex Grossman of Florida, wide receiver Jabar Gaffney of Florida, running back Travis Stephens of Tennessee, defensive lineman Alex Brown of Florida and linebacker Andra Davis of Florida.
