LSU-ULL Meet For First Time Since 1945

BATON ROUGE — The game was a late addition to the Tigers schedule, but when the 6-1 LSU Tigers and the 2-2 Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns get together Tuesday night at the Maravich Assembly Center, it will be a most anticipated contest.

The teams have not met since 1945 and since the 7 p.m. contest was announced tickets have been purchased on a steady basis by fans of both schools.

The game follows a 4:30 p.m. women’s game between the women’s teams of LSU and Louisiana Lafayette.

The men’s game will be broadcast on the LSU Sports Network (Eagle 98.1 FM in Baton Rouge). The game will be televised on a tape delayed basis by the Pelican Sports Network on Fox 44 in Baton Rouge at 9 p.m.

The match-up came as a one-game deal to fill a void left when Arizona coach Lute Olson called and asked to back up his return visit to the Maravich Assembly Center one year so they could play Kansas this past weekend on national television. LSU Coach John Brady called ULL athletic director Nelson Schexnayder and the details were hatched for this one-game setting between the two schools.

LSU is coming off what may have been its best overall performance of the season, a 91-54 win over Northwestern State. Collis Temple, the SEC Player of the Week, had 24 points for the second consecutive game to go with 13 rebounds, while the Tigers were hitting a school record tying 13 three-pointers.

Louisiana Lafayette is 2-2 on the year, coming off an 83-73 win at Bethune Cookman back on Nov. 26. Anthony Johnson leads the Cajuns, averaging 14.0 points per game while Michael Southall is scoring at a 13.0 points per game clip.

Following the game, LSU breaks for concentrated study period on the campus and the semester exams before resuming play on Dec. 15 against McNeese State.
