BATON ROUGE — LSU continued its preparations for Saturday’s Southeastern Conference Western Division title game against 25th-ranked Auburn with a two hour practice here Wednesday at the LSU Practice Facility.
LSU, ranked No. 22 in the nation, has won three straight and stands at 7-3 overall and in second place in the SEC Western Division with a 4-3 mark.
Auburn, losers of two of its last three games, is 7-3 overall and leads the SEC West with a 5-2 mark. The winner of Saturday’s game will represent the SEC West in the league’s championship game.
“Things seem to be going well this week,” LSU coach Nick Saban said after practice. “We have the focus and concentration I was looking for. In order to win this time of year you need focus and sound execution. We need to have the maturity to stay focused and accomplish something. I think we’ve been able to do that so far. Our concentration will go along way in determining how we play the game.
“There is certainly nothing to fear here. We have an opportunity and they (the players) should just go for it.”
Saban said that he and the players are approaching the Auburn game just like any other game this year.
“I think it’s important for them to approach this game just like every other game. Because of what we want to accomplish and what we are prepared to accomplish, I’m hoping we go out and get the job done. I think if you change the routines or other things and people see you as changing the way you approach things, it makes you look like your practicing against what you are preaching.”
Saban said the Tigers will enter the Auburn contest without any injuries.
LSU will practice again on Thursday followed by a walk-thru in Tiger Stadium on Friday afternoon. Kickoff for Saturday’s contest is at 6:45 p.m. and the game will be televised to a national audience by ESPN.
