Volleyball Signs Three in Fall Signing Period

BATON ROUGE — Fresh off its best season in six years, the LSU volleyball team has added three signees to its 2002 team.

The Tigers inked Cara Causey, Megan Heinz and Markeisha Constant in the fall signing period, which began on Nov. 7.

Causey, a 6-2 middle blocker, will join LSU from Pineview High School in Longview Texas. She is considered by LSU coach Fran Flory to be one of the best true middle blockers to sign with the Tigers since she took over in 1998.

“Cara is a true middle who will have the opportunity to come in and play right soon, if not right away,” said Flory. She is a very balanced player who is good offensively and a force blocking.”

Heinz is a 6-1 middle blocker from Langham Creek High School in Houston, Texas. She earned All-District honors a year ago.

“Megan is a great offensive player. She is very balanced and has every shot in the book,” said Flory. “She can be effective against big teams and small teams, it really doesn’t matter. She sees the court real well and is very efficient offensively.”

Constant is the only non-Texas native to sign in the fall. A 6-1 outside hitter from Central High School in Tuscaloosa, Ala., she will come in and be the most athletic player on the team right away.

“Markeisha is a tremendous athlete who jumps well and has unlimited potential,” Flory said. “She doesn’t have a whole lot of experience playing, so her biggest asset to us right away is that she is a true athlete who we can train to become a great volleyball player.”

The Tigers wind up their season this weekend in Orlando, Fla., at the SEC/Big East Conference Challenge.
