Women’s Tennis Signs Nation’s 26th-Ranked Player

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team signed the 26th-ranked high school player in the nation on Monday, as the Lady Tigers added Tara High School standout Erin McGill to the roster for the 2002-2003 season.

“Erin is an outstanding tennis player,” said LSU head coach Tony Minnis. “She possesses a lot of talent and has a great enthusiasm for the game. She will be a great asset to our program and definitely has the capability to be a big-time college player.”

McGill, a senior at Tara High School in Baton Rouge, is currently the top-ranked player in Louisiana and the 26th-ranked player in the nation.

She recently moved to Baton Rouge from Austin, Texas, where she was the No. 2 ranked competitor in the state.

“We are very fortunate to have a player of this caliber join our team and I’m really looking forward to having her here at LSU,” Minnis said.

McGill could have attended any major university in the southern United States, but chose to become a Lady Tiger after narrowing down her choices to either LSU or Texas A&M.
